New Ambulance Station
This innovative design by Melbourne architects Whitefield McQueen combines perimeter cubes, which serve as offices and training rooms, around a high central curved section that confidently expresses its light-weight steel skeleton.

The original idea was to line the central space with translucent sheeting which would have allowed the skeleton to be seen from outside, especially when lit.

Some heavy steel was incorporated into this design to carry the cantilever doors which add asymmetrical loads at the front entry and allow easy access of vehicles.

The building is another in the rollout of ambulance stations serving outer suburban communities.
