The Steel Story
When it`s time to consider house frames the type of frame you choose is a vital decision. Bluescope Steel may not be the 1st material that comes to mind. Yet times have changed and a host of new products and techniques has revolutionized home building. Steel continues to gain in popularity as more OWNER BUILDERS and BUILDERS choose the steel advantage. Steel framing means a long life, trouble free frame.

Steel House Frames are NON COMBUSTIBLE and will not warp, burn or rot.

Balance Steelframe manufactures pre-fabricated wall frames, house frames, floor joist systems, roof trusses and curved trusses.

Balance Steelframe also supply lightweight steel frames for extension, addition or renovation projects for your existing home.

Owner builders can do much of the work themselves saving labour and therefore a considerable amount of GST. Many appreciate the simplicity of the screw together framing, especially as there is no need for special tools.

Starting February 2009 ownerbuilders can complete a short course in Melbourne for steel frame erection ,fitoff and fixing.
This hands on course will show how quick and straightforward it can be to erect residential steel frames. Contact us for more dates and details.

It gives you ongoing peace of mind knowing that your investment is protected from termite infestation. These and other compelling reasons support the move to steel & it is 100%recyclable.

Light-weight steel creates new opportunities for builders and owner builders. Many people looking to create their own dream homes are now designing them to be bigger and better, with different design features that suit their specific needs and tastes. To make these designs possible, materials need to offer maximum strength and durability, as well as being cost effective. The slender profile of steel, its strength and light-weight makes it an ideal option and no cranes are required to assemble the framework, which saves time and money.

What would you prefer to do, chop down 40 to 50 trees or recycle 6 cars? That`s what it takes to prefabricate a steel frame for the average house. To us it does not seem to make sense to chop down trees and then hide them behind plasterboard where they cannot be admired. Isn`t it better to keep this precious resource as a value-add feature, which can be exposed for everyone to admire!

Architects can create sleek contemporary, modern structures and interesting profiles at a reasonable cost. Now that open plan living is integral with contemporary design principles, lightweight steel opens a new world of opportunities for every creative owner builder, architect or builder. This is particularly true on difficult blocks.

Lightweight steels strength and flexibility allows long spans in today`s open plan living at a competitive price as it`s 40% stronger than wood and only 10% of the weight approximately. If you are looking for long span and open plan living, lightweight steel is the creative and cost effective choice. In most cases light weight steel eliminates the need for heavy structural sections which will save you money. You imagine it and we can surely fabricate it. Hi tensile steel has the highest strength to weight ratio of most conventional building materials.

Builders save time and costs choosing steel, as the frame is always straight and true. It does not twist or warp which means there are fewer incidences of popping nails, cracking plaster, jamming doors or windows. New tools and improved frame design make it easier than ever for any builder to get it straight with a steel frame. Our curved roof trusses are engineered to meet all regulations.
A recent comment gave us heart, ``it`s a brilliant product, straight, true and light weight to put up.``

Steel is not subject to termite attack nor does it require expensive and often dangerous ongoing treatment. Organochlorine treatments have already been banned on health grounds and the treatments that have taken their place are claimed to be safer but only time will tell! The termite problem is so widespread in Australia that it threatens the structural integrity of many homes. The march of termites is not just restricted to termite declared areas.

We can supply all the engineering specifications and complete the engineering to meet building specifications.

Prefabricated frames are easy and quick to assemble and on site wastage is almost eliminated. Frames fit together with logic and simplicity and being dimensionally stable once erected they will not move or warp. Prefabricated steel frames are straight and true which makes it easier and faster to achieve a high level of internal finish on the walls, the floors, the ceiling. Saves time and money and some trades actually prefer to work on steel frames because they do not have to pack out, or plane off and compensate for warps, twists and knots.

The steel frames are pre-punched for quick and easy installation of plumbing and electrical services. Grommets are also supplied free of charge to isolate and protect all wiring and pipes.

Lightweight steel is easy to handle and move on site, you do not need cranes and other heavy equipment.

In summary the benefits of a steel frame are

Lighter, stronger and straighter.
Termites will not eat steel. Expensive and dangerous ongoing chemical treatment is not necessary.
Consistent Quality. No bowing, bending, warping, twisting or movement.
Not affected by rain and no drying required.
Not subject to rot or rust.
Non-combustible therefore a lower fire risk.
Environmentally friendly recycled material. The most recycled material in the world.
No health issues. (ie resulting from sawing termite-treated timber).
Reduced probability of foundation problems as a steel frame is a lot lighter than timber. Less weight results in less movement.

Benefits of pre-fabrication are.

Lower overall cost.
Less waste and minimal clean up on site.
Less on-site labour and time.
Easy to assemble. As easy as ABC just follow the easy to follow layout plans.
Less delays due to weather. Get the roof on quickly.
Less on site skilled labour. Lower costs.
Consistent quality.
